There's a lot online about the model of his jeep having been recalled for a gear/transmission problem but ngl this week has been crazy for me I didn't stop to read about why he still had the unrecalled jeep or if that was confirmed

The gear shift is electronic. It glides up and down seamlessly, there is no other positions or "clicks" to let you know you've passed a gear. There was a recall in the process of being initiated because if you didn't push it ALL the way up, it stayed in neutral and it wasn't always possible to tell offhand that it was in neutral. It was announced but wasn't due for full roll-out to all dealers until end of July.

We still don't know WHY he got out - the only way I can figure is that the backend wasn't shut all the way, he got out, reshut it and then the jolt shook the Jeep enough to make it start rolling. There's no other scenario in my mind that would have the car sitting still long enough for him to get behind it.

He drove up the hill to get out, got on the other side of the gate, put the car in what he thought was park, went behind, jolted the car, it rolled backward and it trapped him. To me, it wouldn't make any sense he'd get out and not realize it was rolling hard enough to crush him without that jolt.

jeep when into recall in May for the park actually being in neutral. The car company just got the fix in a few days before this happened and they are incredible backlogged right now. It's a 4 hour app download to fix the problem.

The ghetto fix is to put it in park twice. If it was in park, the computer will tell the driver they're already in gear.

I am Nissan/Infiniti Master Tech and there is no way that it takes 4 hours to reflash the transmission control module. I can guarantee you that it takes about 30 minutes to update the software.

Your service advisor might tell you it takes 4 hours, but that is because he either doesn't want you bugging him every 10 minutes, or he has paying customers who he will make a lot more money off of than a recalled car and he doesn't want to deal with you.

Will

I only say 4 hours because that was what I read the time was on the fix.

These new cars with their downloadable app fixes aren't my thing. I'll stick with the good ol' fashioned having to have it dismantled and parts replaced type vehicle.
