Actor Accidentally Hangs Himself Live on Stage

Oh dear.

Italian actor Raphael Schumacher has been declared clinically dead after he was choked in a stage hanging scene that went wrong.

The 27-year-old's family authorized the donation of his organs, and the doctors have started the procedure, a spokesperson at Cisanello Hospital in Pisa told CNN on Friday.

The actor's head was covered at the time, but the spectator -- a female medical graduate -- saw him trembling and realized something was wrong. She ran to him, loosened the noose, and with the help of another spectator, lowered him to the ground. He was taken to hospital shortly after.

And the ONLY spectator at the scene at the moment was a medical student, so she noticed that something was wrong, otherwise the man would likely be still hanging there.
Apparently he wanted to change the ending of the scene moments before walking on the stage: he was supposed to "commit suicide" by shooting himself, but he decided to place his head in a noose instead.
It has been a hyper-realistic performance, that's for sure.

People do not realize just how easy it is to hang. Its not like those old westerns. If someone is so inclined...or like in this case, the faux hanging went wrong....all it takes is cutting the blood supply...It can be done in a way that the person barely struggles.

Yep.

Cutting off blood to the brain can cause loss of consciousness quickly.

A self-administered "Sleeper Hold".

And an acting career ender.

Re: Actor Accidentally Hangs Himself Live on Stage

If some paper or site puts up the title: Schumacher declared clinically dead after he accidentally hung himself it would have attracted quite some more people not knowing it was about an Italian actor.

The ultimate in "method acting."

But then again, he's the one stupid enough to try an "impromptu" hanging scene. If he wasn't smart enough to know that doing so requires a harness & preparation, then a Darwin Award is deserved.

Took six hours to establish brain death, I didn't know it took that long.

Poor guy, what an untimely death. Be in the Fortean Times.

Couldn't help but remember that Futurama death scene with Calculon & that bag headed actor go head to head in a best death scene competion.

Funny enough though, Calculon really kills himself to make sure he wins, but loses anyway.
