Acid attack on school-run mother in NewhamPolice have appealed for information to catch a man who threw acid at a mother as she walked her two children home from school in east London.

The woman, 40, suffered serious burns to her head, shoulder and back when she was targeted in Harold Road, Newham, shortly after picking up her children.

The man, who was black, aged 25-35, 5ft 10ins with short black hair, was seen getting into a mauve-coloured BMW.

Three men have been arrested and bailed in connection with the inquiry.

'Terrible crime'

Detectives said the woman and her two young children were approached by the man at about 1520 GMT on 24 March.

Realising he had thrown a liquid at her she began to feel a burning sensation and was taken to hospital.

She underwent specialist medical treatment and has since been allowed home.

Police said the suspect was seen getting into the back seat of a BMW. Two Asian men were also in the car which was driven towards Terrace Road.

Det Con Phil Fox, said: "This was a very serious incident against a woman picking up her young children from school.

"I urge anyone with any information to contact police to help bring those responsible for this terrible crime to justice."

Five men were arrested last month, two were released without charge and the others, aged 26, 32 and 23, were bailed until June.

That is an absolute disgrace. There has to be some reason they targeted her. I think in cases like this turnabout is fair play. The perps need to have acid thrown on their genitals and face so they can experience what the victim did.

they were probably a muslim family, a lot of muslim men in their home countries splash acid on their wives and get away with it.

i cant remember why they tend to do it, i cant rememberif it has anythign to do with the women being unfaithful or if that was the reason or not.

there's a post on here that was made 1 or 2 yrs ago which talks about a chain of beautician shops in afhanistan or pakistan (cant remember which one it was) which only employs women that have had acid thrown on them, they find women who have had this done to, and train them to be beauticians and they work in these shops all over the country, dont know if they've branched out further across the rest of the middle east now.

Acid burnings are normally when the family suspects that the woman may have cheated or just that her husband is unhappy that men are looking at her.

The disfigurement is as it seems..to make them less attractive and so they do not want to go outside as much.

As i always say though "There is more to this story than we see"..so meh.
