AUS, A man will face almost ten years in jail after footage emerged of his horrific attack on an unsuspecting woman on a Sydney train.

David Marlin was yesterday sentenced to a minimum nine years in jail after the sexual assault of a 34-year-old woman last year, who suffers a mental illness.

The footage shows Marlin approaching the woman on a public train near Ingleburn, in Sydney’s southwest, and extending his hand. Without looking back, the woman gestures her hand towards his.

But immediately after, he slugs her in the face and begins to attack her.

“She was simply helpless to protect herself from this forceful, vicious and determined attack,” Judge Paul Conlon said.

This is Marlin’s most recent in a long list of violent assaults carried out by the con; his rap sheet dates back to 1984 and includes multiple attacks.

He spent three years in prison in 2006 for rape.
Outside court, Mr Marlin’s ex-wife Margaret Dickson shared details of her own horrifying experience, describing him as an “animal” to reporters.

“I (once) woke to him on top of me, headbutting me into unconscious — my babysitter who was only 15 ran up the stairs screaming, which caused him to stop,” she said.

He will be eligible for parole in 2023.
