Re: 8-inch Long, Pink Slug Discovered in NSW
how weird. locals have been seeing them for some time but is this saying that it has just now been confirmed? seems like someone would have heard the locals and hung around to verify or denounce asap. i'm surprised no one has gone out and started collecting them and selling them elsewhere as "pets". and don't ask "who would want those as pets?" i'm sure many would. people have tarantulas as "pets" as well as hissing cockroaches, giant millipedes and centipedes and other various strange creatures. I would prefer one of them to the previous mentioned any day. I suppose the main drawback to having one as a pet in the U.S. would be feeding it if it eats the eucalyptus leaves it hides in and eats nothing else. I would imagine though it shouldn't be long before they show up in zoos here. the zoos have to import eucalyptus leaves anyway for the koalas. they are a rather pretty color! much brighter than what I had expected before clicking on the post.

Re: 8-inch Long, Pink Slug Discovered in NSW
AmericanIllusions - you are probably correct in assuming it is poisonous. just about everything in Australia is poisonous or will kill you in some manner. it amazes me that anyone even reaches adulthood there. (i'm not knocking Australia, it has some amazing (but dangerous) critters on it. and i'm not knocking Australians either. I figure an Australian who reaches adulthood has to be very smart or very lucky.) someone I knew on the internet from Australia told me about a poisonous spider that lived in a certain part of Australia. the spider would get into swimming pools and would sit at the bottom enclosed in a bubble waiting for something to come near or break the bubble (can't remember which) and then it would attack and bite. she said people had to walk around the pools and check for spiders before entering a pool. don't know if it is true but I asked someone else from Australia and they said it was. if so, that is scary! |
