Re: The $76 Million Dollar "Suicide Barrier" for Golden Gate Bridge
Ridiculous. Like people who want to kill themselves will give up the idea because one bridge is substantially more difficult to jump from. The last estimate (in 2012) for total suicides committed from the Golden Gate was 1,600 . The official count stopped after 997 suicides. So how about the next 7,600 people who are so desperate that they want to die all getting $10,000 dollars a piece to try and rebuild their lives. I know for some people who a grieving a loss money cannot help, but many people kill themselves because of financial pressure. Without taking exponential population growth into consideration (because I'm stoned I really can't be arsed with calculus right now), the money to build this ludicrously expensive fence would satisfy my proposed suicide prevention fund for the next 356 years and 3 months. My suspicions are that the fence is being built to divert government funds into the pockets of corrupt government officials and dodgy mafioso building contractors.

Re: The $76 Million Dollar "Suicide Barrier" for Golden Gate Bridge
Since they are using more of a "trapeze net" approach and not a "fenced barrier" approach, assuming they are able, what will stop people from jumping out of the net? All this barrier/net does is make suicide from the GGB a two-step process, rather than one. |

Re: The $76 Million Dollar "Suicide Barrier" for Golden Gate Bridge
If that's the case then we should just make war all the time, too. Population control at it's best. And while we're at it, stop giving aide to certain countries, that'll take care of all those starving and sick people, as well. SMH.

Re: The $76 Million Dollar "Suicide Barrier" for Golden Gate Bridge
Well they said in the article this trapeze net will be made of steel cable and hurt like a bastard to fall into it... apparently according to the article people just want to die and not hurt themselves in the process. I think a fence approach would work better though. |
