7 Year Old Crushed By Malfunctioned Escalator
A seven-year-old boy was killed and 28 people injured after an escalator at a Beijing underground station suddenly went into reverse causing an horrific crush. Passengers queuing at the bottom to get aboard the rising escalator were buried under a mound of people when the machine suddenly malfunctioned at Zoo station in the Chinese capital. Photos taken shortly after the tragedy show bloodied underground passengers lying on the floor by the metal escalator. Horror: A seven-year-old boy was killed after being crushed by fellow underground passengers when this Beijing escalator suddenly went into reverse: Aftermath: Two underground passengers tend to a wounded man. Chinese authorities say they have no explanation as to why the escalator suddenly malfunctioned: The dead boy's father had been taking his two children on a trip to the zoo. He is in intensive care while his daughter suffered a head injury. A witness said: 'People pressed into a pile and the boy and his father were buried under the others.' A Beijing public transport official said they were trying to investigate what had happened to cause the accident and to work out why emergency safety features built-in to stop such accidents had not worked. The tragedy caused the station to be closed for several hours while staff worked to treat the injured, including two people whose clothing had become trapped in the escalator. Police cordoned-off the entrance to Zoo underground station which was closed for several hours while the injured passengers were treated: |

Re: 7 Year Old Crushed By Malfunctioned Escalator
Great... wouldn't take elevators before cause I'm scared of the cables snapping and falling and now I can't take escalators because they decide to go wacko. |
