7.4 Earthquake in Turkey - Live Videos & Aftermath
Those media are related to Turkey only, but the earthquake hit Syria and Israel too. Article I found online: Istanbul, Turkey CNN — At least 2,835 people have died and rescuers are racing to pull survivors from beneath the rubble after a devastating earthquake ripped through Turkey and Syria, leaving destruction and debris on each side of the border. One of the strongest earthquakes to hit the region in a century shook residents from their beds at around 4 a.m. on Monday, sending tremors as far away as Lebanon and Israel. In Turkey, at least 1,762 people have died and several thousand are injured, according to Turkey’s Vice President Fuat Oktay. In neighboring Syria, at least 1,073 people have died. According to the Syrian state news agency SANA, 593 people have died across government-controlled areas, mostly in the regions of Aleppo, Hama, Latakia, and Tartus. |

Re: 7.4 Earthquake in Turkey - Live Videos & Aftermath
In Turkey, a building under construction doesn't get taxed until it's completed. So most large buildings in Turkey are left unfinished. This results in water intrusion, rusty beams, foundation seeps and settling, and failed foundations. Just a recipe for disaster, which is just what this was. Although some castle that was 2000 years old also fell, so it was a pretty bad earthquake, too! It had survived all the previous wars and earthquakes since before 0000 AD. |
