Re: 500 Rupees Bet Over Swimming Across a Raging River Goes Wrong
He could have crossed that river if he didn't waste his energy trying to vector an upstream angle. If he just swam sideways he would have landed way downstream but still landed. Also the opening description says he said, "I lost, blah blah blah" after jumping in. He said nothing in the vid. |

How would swimming sideways against the current be any more effective? Just better technique? I guess the side stroke is a bit more efficient, but that would've just made him swim backwards more slowly.

Re: 500 Rupees Bet Over Swimming Across a Raging River Goes Wrong
I can't tell if you are being serious. My coaching was for him to swim a strong forward crawl, but swim laterally toward shore rather than upstream. Doing so, his energy would be directed toward lateral movement and not wasted. Instead, he vectored upstream, and all that effort against a strong current exhausted him. Looking at the current profile on the surface of the river, the current was only significant in the center of the river, exactly the place where he was trying to swim upstream. |
