5 Year Old Drowns Crying Toddler
Girl, 5, Drowns Toddler For Crying Updated: Thursday, 09 Jun 2011, 8:57 PM CDT Published : Thursday, 09 Jun 2011, 8:57 PM CDT (NewsCore) - KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police in Kansas City, Mo. were Thursday investigating the death of a toddler believed to have been drowned by a five-year-old girl because he was crying too much. The incident occurred on June 3 at a home in the 2600 block of Elmwood Avenue, where a 16-year-old teenager with mental disabilities was babysitting several children, local broadcaster KCTV reported. As the teenager slept, the five-year-old girl dragged 18-month-old Jermane Johnson into a tub filled with water and drowned him. The girl later told police she drowned Jermane because he had been crying and was making too much noise. "I was shocked when I heard it," said neighbor Patricia Lewis. "I couldn't believe it. But for her age, I just couldn't believe it." Missouri has no minimum age for criminal responsibility and while the death has not been declared a homicide, authorities said they were investigating it as such.
