Re: 4 Year Old Girl Banned From School Picture Because of Hairstyle
Where in the hell are you two getting that a 4-year-old gets to choose whether or not to be a part of such an organization? And really, people... a braid is a kind of weaving of the hair to make a rope which can then be twisted into other shapes if wanted. A bow is a knot, the same as you tie on your shoe or around your neck at a party. That is how her hair is styled. Her father was following the stated rules in order to make his daughter happy and be respectful of her school's policies. |

Re: 4 Year Old Girl Banned From School Picture Because of Hairstyle
I get the argument but if the school had strict hair rules well... And 'braids' is used as a term meaning like tied up fancy. My school had a strict code and wasn't Christian/Catholic. Some kids were given appropriate clothes for the group photo and no-one cared then. Now they all whine, it bores me.

Re: 4 Year Old Girl Banned From School Picture Because of Hairstyle
My niece was choosing hair styles at 4, but, her mother is a hairdresser. She still does. She also wants African American hair so she can make better hairdos. I told her the best we can do is a perm, but, it won't look or feel the same :) |

Re: 4 Year Old Girl Banned From School Picture Because of Hairstyle
When I went to school, if you had long hair, you wore a ponytail or two pigtails. Short hair had only one style. That's pretty much all I can remember. My neice has braids sometimes now. Our public schools did change to uniforms since she has been going to school, but, they can choose from a few colors and wear any shoes except flip flops or shoes with no backs, which I figure is for safety going down steps or running. |
