A family of four — including two children — were found killed inside a Southern California home late Monday, according to a report.

Police discovered the bloodshed after a 16-year-old boy called 911 and reported that he found his family members injured or killed in the Fontana home, officials said.


Investigators said once they went inside the Palmetto Ave. house, they found the bodies of a 12-year-old girl, a 10-year-old boy, and an adult man and woman, both between 35 and 40 years old.



Neighbors told KABC-TV that the victims were a mother, a stepfather and two children who all lived in the home.

Police later identified the dead as Ramon Miranda, 38, and Silvia Miranda, 34, and their children, 12-year-old Ramon Jr. and 10-year-old Rayna.

"Everything that has been confirmed so far indicates it could be a murder-suicide but that has not been confirmed," police spokeswoman Guzman-Hurtado said. "They are questioning other people before making that conclusion."

The 16-year-old 911 caller was a relative but did not live with the four people found dead. He reportedly came to the home about 8:30 p.m. Monday after being unable to get in contact with his family members.

“There is some amounts of blood in different areas of the house,” Fontana police Sgt. Doug Imhof told the news station.

One neighbor told the news station that there was arguing coming from the house a few hours before the grisly scene was discovered.

Fontana, a city of about 200,000 people in San Bernardino County, is about 50 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

Fontana family found dead in apparent triple murder-suicide

FONTANA >> A man apparently shot his wife and two children dead inside their home, and then turned the gun on himself, police said Tuesday.

At about 8:30 p.m. Monday, Fontana police officers were called to the home in the 7300 block of Palmetto Avenue, where they discovered the bodies of Ramon Miranda, 38, and Silvia Miranda, 34, and their son Ramon Jr., 12, and daughter Rayna, 10, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office.

Silvia Miranda and the two children were found with multiple gunshot wounds, and Ramon Miranda was found with a single gunshot wound to the head, according to police spokeswoman Martha Guzman-Hurtado.

A motive had not been determined, police said, but a handgun was found in the home.

Neighbor Jonathan Garcia, 23, said he and his family heard commotion around 8:30 p.m. Monday at the house.

He said a teenage boy was heard yelling, “That is my mom! He killed my mom!”

Fontana police confirmed that the 16-year-old boy was Silvia Miranda’s son, and it was he who called police.

The teen and two other family members discovered the bodies, neighbors said.

Police said the teen wanted to check on his mother after not being able to contact her that day. He did not live in the home.

One neighbor said the Mirandas seemed “like a loving couple” and several said that their children were “good kids” who helped their parents with chores, like taking out the trash and washing a truck.

Neighbors said the couple took turns driving the children to school and picking them up.

News of the apparent murder-suicide rippled through Fontana Tuesday.

“This is a tragedy for our community. Our hearts go out to family members,” Guzman-Hurtado said.

“As a community we are standing together to support this family and keeping them in our prayers,” Fontana Mayor Acquanetta Warren said.

Some neighbors say there had been arguing in the house earlier in the evening.

Others said they didn’t hear them fight — ever — and by all appearances, the Miranadas were a happy couple.

Fontana police say they have never responded to a domestic disturbance at the home.

Garcia said he overheard one of the victim’s family members telling police the couple was about to separate. David Higgins, a semi-retired schoolteacher, said when police came about 9 p.m. Monday night he thought it was a car crash, which are not infrequent in the neighborhood, although crimes against people are unusual.

Monday morning, Garcia said his father heard “three or four booms” inside the house as he was mailing a letter at a mailbox in front of the house. He did not recognize the noises as being gunshots, Garcia said.

This “community mailbox” was the spot where neighborhood residents often had contact with the Mirandas.

One of those neighbors, Mary Armenta, said the two Miranda children helped their parents during a recent garage sale and in the past have helped them wash the family truck.

“They seemed like really good kids,” she said.

Sal Arauz said the couple seemed friendly and always waved when he drove by.

“What a crappy way to bring in the New Year,” he said.

Investigators are awaiting the results of autopsies next week.

That's crazy. Did you know of the family? Around ten years ago someones girlfriend ran over someones wife two houses down from my mom's house. My mom is a nurse and went to help until the ambulance came. It can happen any time, anywhere.
