Four people were killed and 10 wounded in a shooting during a family gathering at a banquet hall in Stockton, sheriff’s officials said Saturday.

The victims included both children and adults, said Heather Brent, a spokesperson for the San Joaquin County sheriff’s office. Early indications “suggest this may have been a targeted incident,” Brent said during a news conference at the scene.

Local officials said the suspected shooter has not been caught and pleaded with the public for help. Detectives were still working to identify a possible motive.

“If you have any information as to this individual, reach out immediately. If you are this individual, turn yourself in immediately,” San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas said during a news conference.

The shooting occurred just before 6 p.m. inside the banquet hall, which shares a parking lot with other businesses. Stockton is a city of 320,000 about 40 miles (64 kilometers) south of Sacramento.

“This is Thanksgiving weekend. This is when families come together, celebrate, share memories, give each other love,” Mayor Christina Fugazi said.

“Unfortunately tonight, heaven is a little bigger with the individuals, children and adults that unfortunately did not make it.”

Fugazi recalled a shooting several years ago in which “seven people were gunned down” in the city, adding that both attacks were “unacceptable.”

“Stockton is better than this,” she said.

Authorities did not immediately provide additional information about the conditions of the victims. Officials said earlier that several were taken to hospitals.

“Families should be together instead of at the hospital, standing next to their loved one, praying that they survive,” Fugazi said.

Jason Lee, who grew up in Stockton and now serves as Vice Mayor, poured his heart out:

“Tonight, my heart is heavy. I am devastated and angry to learn about the mass shooting at a child’s birthday party.

An ice cream shop should never be a place where families fear for their lives. Violence touched my life as a young person, and seeing our own children, parents, and neighbors go through this shakes me deeply.

Stockton is my home. These are our families. This is our community.”

He’s on the phone with public safety officials right now demanding answers, vowing the city will not accept this as normal.

Multiple people shot, kids among the victims, all because some piece of garbage opened fire at a little kid’s birthday celebration.

This isn’t just another shooting. This is evil walking into a place full of balloons and cake and trying to murder children.

The shooter is still out there.

The police telling the person to turn themself in is a terrible look for them, and quite frankly, laughable. Moreover, How is there no released surveillance footage of the suspect? Is this a mass-shooting, or gang-violence with collateral damage? I'm starting to truly believe that the suspect is black and that's the reason why they haven't released literally ANY description of the perpetrator, because they are afraid of being labeled racist. Anyway, I'm interested if they find this person.

Chuck-e-Cheese traditionally has the most bitter fighting, worse than Waffel House even. Kids birthday parties often degenerate into violence when ex-spouses and their families clash. I haven't looked at this one but it will most likely be swarthies losing their cool or maybe a revenge hit. It's a law of physics that black people kill each other on Saturday night.

The one that got killed are three children aged 8, 9, and 14, plus a 21-year-old adult Susano Archuleta who came to the party because it was his friend's daughter who celebrated her b'day. A suspect, or suspects, has not been identified or arrested yet.

Whoever did this killed 3 children and a 21 year old guy. It's only a matter of time before the killer(s) is/are found.

I seriously doubt any of the dead were intentional targets. If I were to guess, the "gang" members probably just had awful aim and unfortunately hit everyone else besides the actual target. Disappointing this life-style is glorified among their race.

All four victims who were killed in the Stockton mass shooting have been identified. They are Journey Rose, Maya Lupian, Amari Peterson and Susano Archuleta.
