21 Y/o Man Busts an El Chapo from Fed Prison in My Hometown

A man serving less than five years for a cocaine case walked away Wednesday from the minimum-security La Tuna federal prison camp in Anthony, Texas, officials said.

The U.S. Marshals Service is looking for Edgar Perez Flores, 21, who was convicted of trying to smuggle nearly 10 pounds of cocaine past a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in South Texas in 2013.

About 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, La Tuna staff noticed that Perez was missing from the prison camp. Inmates at the camp have more freedom than those at the adjacent prison.

No details were released on how Perez escaped.

Perez is a U.S. citizen with family in Brownsville, Texas, documents and a Marshals Service official stated.

On Feb. 11, 2013, Perez was driving a car stopped at the Border Patrol checkpoint in Sarita, about 60 miles south of Corpus Christi, according to federal court documents.

After sniffing around the car, a Border Patrol narcotics dog began barking at the driver's door. Perez and a passenger became "visibly nervous" with Perez "shaking extensively, especially his legs," a criminal complaint stated. A search of the vehicle found five packages of cocaine in a hidden floor compartment.

When questioned by Drug Enforcement Administration agents, Perez said that he was to be paid $800 to transport drugs from Matamoros, Mexico, to Dallas, according to the complaint. Perez told agents that he had previously transported four drug loads from Matamoros to Brownsville and was paid $1,600.

Perez was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison June 20, 2013, after pleading guilty to a drug-smuggling conspiracy charge in federal court in Corpus Christi, documents stated.

Perez is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds.

Anyone with information on Perez is asked to call the U.S. Marshals Service at 534-6779.

Daniel Borunda may be reached at 546-6102. Reporter Aaron Martinez contributed to this report.

Well that narrows it down, him being a Mexican I am sure he will stick out like a sore thumb.

Wow only $800, and $1'600 for four different trips. That ain't shit. That's peanuts for what it gets sold on the streets. And yeah he looks pretty typical. But for a reward nobody will hesitate to turn him in.
