The family of an Xbox addict, who recently died during a marathon session playing video games, is pleading to other parents to protect their kids from excessive gaming.

An autopsy revealed that Chris Staniforth, 20, suffered from deep vein thrombosis, which can be triggered by sitting in one position for long periods of time.

Staniforth, of Sheffield, England would play on his console for up to 12 hours in one sitting.

A coroner said his death in May was caused by a clot formed in the young man's left calf before it moved to his lungs. Once it reached there, it caused a fatal blockage.

Staniforth, who loved playing "Halo" with people all over the world, collapsed shortly after telling a friend he had been feeling painful sensations in his chest.

"He said his heart rate had been incredibly low but it went back to normal and he fell asleep again," recounted his devastated father, David Staniforth.

"Then he dropped a packet of chewing gum and as he picked it up, he jolted back and began to spasm."

The friend called medics, but it was too late.

Professor Brian Colven, an expert on blood-related conditions, told the newspaper it was unhealthy for gamers to spend long periods playing video games.

While deep vein thrombosis normally affects travelers on long flights, doctors are now concerned video gamers could be at risk too.

"There's anxiety about obesity and children not doing anything other than looking at computer screens," he said.

dont sit down for 12 hours a day then, i used to enjoy playing my 360 online when i had it but im glad i always get bored after a few hours no matter what. theres much better things to be doing

At 20 years old he should have been out working, not sitting playing computer games for 12 hours a day.
DVT is dangerous. I had it when I was pregnant, but I was lucky and they got rid of the clot.

Now i enjoy gaming but those that play all day are weird
Some sit with munchies and booze around them not moving unless they need the toilet, easy to see why they health problems and in this case die.

We have many people here in the UK claiming job seekers allowance who actually don't seek jobs and sit around all day either watching tv or gaming.
I think they ought to be made to work voluntary, not only to earn the money they are getting for doing fuck all but to motivate them back into work. Plenty of work out there they could do, when they realise they're working for just a small amount of job seekers they will want to get a job for a proper wage.

I think if PPL are gonna be in tournaments that after a hour they need to do a mandatory break and if the player votes to not do one after 4 breaks then they are subject to a mandatory Pause and if they loose points too bad you had your chance to break with your team and if they dont its put down that they wanted to pass a break for legal purposes..thats what i think , just so Adults and young kids dont die VIA XBOX360
