September 20, 2011 Scientists Unveil 20-Million-Year-Old Skull of Ancient Primate Found in Uganda

Scientists in Paris have unveiled a 20-million-year-old fossil of a primate skull that was found in Uganda. The Telegraph reports that scientists found the Ugandapithecus skull buried under sediment on the Napak XV hillside of the volcanoes in the Karamoja region of Uganda.

Dr. Martin Pickford, a member of the team of paleontologists who found the skull, says, "It's the first time we've got a real good sample of Ugandapithecus Major. Before that, it was known by jaw fragments, isolated teeth, a few postcranial bones. But here, we really have a good idea for the first time of what the whole skull might have looked like."
