2 Dead 150+ Exposed to Super Bug at UCLA Hospital

Nearing almost a year to date of loosing my mother who walked into the hospital for typical care related to her condition, then rapidly deteriorating in an unsettling 48 time peroid. I've concluded if you want to get sick, possibly die, just head to the hospital.

Nearly 180 patients at UCLA's Ronald Reagan Medical Center may have been exposed to potentially deadly bacteria from contaminated medical scopes, and two deaths have already been linked to the outbreak.

The Times has learned that the two people who died are among seven patients that UCLA found were infected by the drug-resistant superbug known as CRE...

Never liked hospitals for the enormous widespread of bacteria etc but the most spreading is done by docs and nurses going from one room to another without washing their hands properly. Hope they find a remedy against this superbug fast before it spreads around like the plague.

Another reason I hate being inpatient. I swear it's the reason older people die so quickly when they're admitted for even the smallest of reasons.

I remember when all those newborns were dying in the hospital and they found it was from a nurse working in the nursery with acrylic fingernails. I can't remember how long ago or which hospital it was.

What killed my mom. Spry and perfect health for a Sr checks into a hospital for a minor procedure and winds up with C. Diff that slowly killed her over a 3 month period, most of that on a ventilator in ICU. Hell of a way to go and could have been prevented and still with us. If the insurance companies and medicare stopped paying out on hospital borne infections and negative outcomes, watch how fast things would change.

Re: 2 Dead 150+ Exposed to Super Bug at UCLA Hospital

Staph infections are commonplace and many of the support staff are not trained properly. RN's were the rule and then came LPN with an RN in place (For the paperwork). Now we have the Nurse Assistant that basically takes readings (and not well). We're fortunate in Northern Kentucky as the RN's are treated as important and are utilized in force in our hospitals.

Like anything its not all but some. That being said it is there job...duty to make sure their hospital is in sterile condition. Sorry to hear about your mother jack. No one deserves to go through.. or witness that.
