A New York seventh grader was fatally shot at point blank range outside his apartment building Friday and police are searching for the gunman.

Christopher Duran, 14, and his younger brother were on their way to school in the Bronx when he was targeted.

Christopher was shot three times in the stomach and once in the head around 8.30am. just steps away from his apartment building on Sheridan Avenue. According to the Daily News, the baby-faced youngster cried out 'Mommy, mommy' as he died.

This isn't fucking Juarez where poor, uneducated Mexican kids are often given a choice: work for the Cartel or you and your family will die.

This is likely a systemic failure on many levels. Parental, societal, cultural, academic. Wherever you're most comfortable pointing the blame, the fact remains that this kid had been arrested 5 times by the time he was in Junior High. No bright future lost here.

It's pathetic that the media is capitalizing on his youth with this "Mommy mommy" bullshit to tear at the heartstrings of privileged SJW's and white soccer moms. If his 'mommy' had given more of a shit or he'd bothered to listen to her when she did, he'd still be alive and on his way to making some sort of societal contribution beyond making the street cleaners scrub a little harder for their wage.

The kid chose his path

Relatives and family friends insisted that Christopher was not involved with gangs. “He was not into the streets,” said Stephanie Guzman, 25, a cousin of the victim. “He was not doing anything wrong. Why shoot an innocent kid that hasn’t done no harm to anybody?”

Ms. Guzman described Christopher as a “good kid,” passionate about boxing and diligent about his schoolwork. “He loved sports, karate, he loved to watch TV,” she said. “He was always upstairs with his friends. He didn’t really go out.”

But a police official said that Christopher had been arrested at least five times since 2013 on charges that included assault, knife possession and robbery. Because he was a juvenile, the records are sealed so the specifics of the incidents are unknown. The official said that Christopher’s older brother was a “known member” of a local gang called the 280 Crew, but investigators did not know if Christopher was also in the group.

On March 14, 2012, Duran posted a photo of a Smith and Wesson pistol on his Facebook page. And on Dec. 27 of that same year, he posted photos of himself flashing what appear to be gang signs.

Duran’s family, who hail from the Dominican Republic, insisted he was no gangbanger.

“He’s a pretty boy,” his uncle, Jose Mendoza, said. “He never do nothing. He never hangs out with gangs, nothing like that.”

his older brother is probably a good kid too according to relatives. Most parents will tell how good and innocent their kid is as most have no clue what goes around in their kid's life when they leave the house.

Just goes to show just how little the family was really involved in the kid's life. If they actually had payed attention, he may not have wound up being in so much trouble and ultimately dead. Smh
