Landing and bearing weight on his knee like that on such soft terrain should be no problem for the tibia to handle. I'm not saying he was on anabolic steroids, but the use of steroids for prolonged periods of time will weaken your bones to this degree. Hopefully he makes a full recovery and doesn't need a knee replacement anytime soon.
