Thug Who Pole-axed a Young Woman with a Vicious Punch Jailed for 1 Year

Ramiz Khan, aged 26, from Oldbury, was captured on CCTV holding Aniece Killion by the throat and then hitting her in the face.

It happened in an alleyway in Burton, Staffordshire, UK in July 2009 and the force of the blow launched Miss Killion, who had tried to walk past Khan, into the air.

A video of the attack was played at Stafford Crown Court as Khan, of Victoria Road, was sentenced for actual bodily harm.

He was given 12 months’ jail having pleaded guilty to the charge, and also one of affray.

In addition, a 12-month suspended sentence handed out for violent offences in April 2008 was also activated by Judge Mark Eades, but reduced to nine months.

Khan received a total of 21 months’ prison.

Judge Eades said: “The video is shocking. It shows a high degree of violence.

“The explosions of violence are quite frankly sickening. The young woman punched was literally pole-axed.”

Jolyon Canlin, defending Khan, said: “He has expressed a great deal of sorrow for the pain he caused Miss Killion.”

Khan was in the dock with three others who were with him as they clashed violently with another group in the alleyway. Mohammed Vakaar, 22, Dilshad Ahmed, 26, and Shakeel Abbas, 29, all admitted affray.

Vakaar, of Walford Street, Tividale, who was jailed for 18 months for a separate violent offence in December last year, had ten months added to the end of his current jail term.

Ahmed, of St Paul’s Road, Smethwick, got ten months and a further four months as the judge activated half of an eight-month suspended sentence dished out in November 2008 for burglary and theft.

Abbas, from Grange Close, Burton, who was of previous good character and had trained to become a barrister, was given a year behind bars.

Richard Atkins, defending Vakaar said: “He didn’t go looking for trouble that night – trouble came his way.”

Ekwall Tiwana, defending Ahmed, said he suffered from schizophrenia and mixed his mediation with alcohol on the night of the offence leading to “very bad decision making”.
