Guards are common in shops and supermarkets in northern- and western Europe as well. Ultimately a better system because it frees off the police from quick dispatches when a guard wrestles the thief to the ground and takes them to some quiet room in the shop to patiently wait for the cops. Nowhere near as many as in Russia, but still one shop will usually always have at least one guard.

Anything I view from Russia, no matter the section of post, is always brutal, and without any dire emotional stress during the incidents. Life must be super tuff there.
