Rowdy Drunk Group of Men and Women Beat Up a Woman and Neighbor

Around four o'clock in the morning, a 41-year-old woman in russia was returning from a visit to her home.

A rowdy, drunken group of three young men and four young women, all around 20 years old, stood outside the entrance.

The woman reprimanded them. In response, one of the women poured beer on her, while another showed her "some kind of ID," claiming it was from the police.

But the woman couldn't see it as she has vision problems. A rare condition where she's blind in one eye and only 20% vision in the other.

The victim decided to take a photo of the ID card and pulled out her phone, but one of the guys snatched it from her hands. The woman tried to grab it and ran after him, but couldn't catch up and began to walk back to her building.

Meanwhile, the group moved to a store near the house. The victim also headed there.

Her neighbors, a man and a woman, approached the store. She asked a woman in the group to call the guy who had taken her phone, but she was hit and fell. The women attacked her and began beating her. The neighbors also began to be beaten.

She managed to grab one of them by the hair, and they both fell. The rest of her friends started kicking her, biting her hands, and trying to break her fingers," the victim's friend says.

When the beating of her neighbor stopped, she ran home to call the police, but her boyfriend continued to be kicked by two guys.

The police didn't respond. We called the police several times, but they never showed up. They kept calling until the fight started because they were yelling and making noise," says a meighbor.

The beating lasted about 5 minutes. They stopped when they thought they'd killed the neighbor.

"The guy showed no signs of life, they thought he was dead and started talking among themselves: 'He looks dead, let's get out of here quickly,'.

One of the girls picked up two bags from the ground—one from her neighbor and one from the female victim herself, containing 20,000 rubles. Then the group left.

Her face was covered in cuts, bruises, and contusions and her neighbor had his lip stitched up in the ambulance.

"A few days after the beating, she called me and asked me to take her to the police. When I saw her, I was in shock. There was no trace of life left on her face,".

The victim's friend is concerned about her eye health. She has a rare genetic disorder called aniridia. The doctor who treats this condition is in Moscow. Appointments are expensive. Furthermore, there is a long waiting list for a specialist.

"I'm primarily worried about my eyes," says the victim. "Bruises, swelling—all of that will go away, but my eyes."

She received a refund for her stolen phone. The fate of the bag containing 20,000 rubles remains unknown.

After the story became public, many lawyers wrote to her (while the company that assaulted the woman was provided with lawyers free of charge).

They offered pro bono assistance. Moscow-based lawyer Alexander Shushakov is currently working with the victim.

He said that the police opened a criminal case only on the fact of theft of someone else's property (robbery), but without qualifying elements.

"Without qualifying elements—that means no group of people involved, no violence. It's just that her bag, containing 20,000 rubles, was stolen," Shushakov explained.

The lawyer also said he spoke with an investigator on October 14. He said investigators are currently finalizing the robbery case. They plan to subsequently separate the phone theft and assault cases.

Alexander Shushakov asserts that the company should be held accountable under the statute of "hooliganism."

The lawyer now plans to submit a parliamentary inquiry to the State Duma to attract the attention of parliamentarians.

"They don't even regret it."

One of the girls who beat the woman is registered with a drug treatment center, and the other has two children—one two years old and one nine months old. The victim learned all this from investigators.

"These girls shed tears at the police stations," says her friend, "they come out and immediately start laughing. During the confrontation, the detainee's lawyer says, 'Write that we apologize.' Her friend asks, 'Where's the apology?' And she says, 'Well, I apologize.'

Besides the fact that they're unpunished, they don't even express regret. And this further suggests that they could do it again, and this impunity will only make them more brutal."
