Feb 19 2009 The Nicholas County High School principal who was placed on leave last week after an incident with a student has been suspended.

Nicholas County school spokesman Hank Bond declined to answer any questions in relation to Joseph Orazen after the school released a statement that said the district will make no other comment or answer any questions "until due process has been served."

"Mr. Joe Orazen is suspended, and he has a right to request a hearing from the Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Education," the statement said.

The student, Dusty Green, 15, has been suspended for 10 days, said his mother, Michelle Green of Carlisle.

Michelle Green said she is outraged and wants criminal charges filed against Orazen. She said she has not yet hired a lawyer.

"I'm mad," she said. "I'm anxious for the criminal proceedings to go forward."

Orazen did not return calls for comment.

The video shows a confrontation outdoors between a male student and a man, and reporters identified them as Orazen and Dusty Green.

The footage shows the man wrapping his arms around the student, scooping him up and slamming him to the ground.

Orazen previously taught at Lexington's Henry Clay High School and was an assistant football coach there, according to Herald-Leader archives.

Michelle Green declined to discuss details about the confrontation.

"I want to make sure that I in no way compromise the criminal proceeding," she said.

Carlisle police confirmed Wednesday that they are investigating the incident.

Chief William Denton said the department became involved Feb. 10 after a school resource officer, who was not on campus at the time, called police.

Denton referred questions about the case to the sergeant in charge of the investigation. But the sergeant could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

The case is being handled by Harrison County Attorney Charles Kuster because Nicholas County Attorney Dawn Letcher is the school board's attorney.

Kuster said he received noticed of his appointment as special prosecutor earlier this week.

He declined to comment on the case other than to say that no charges had been filed.

The Nicholas County High School principal accused of assaulting a student was due back in court April 15, but the hearing was delayed.

Joe Orazen entered a not guilty plea last month to fourth-degree assault charges in the case.

The charges stem from an incident outside the high school where Orazen was caught on a surveillance camera confronting 15-year-old Dusty Green.

The student says he was trying to get back into the building to get his coat when Orazen allegedly grabbed Green and threw him to the ground, injuring his shoulder.

Orazen has not commented on what is shown on tape but says he believes another side of the story will come out in court.

Feltner has taught and coached for more than 20 years in Montgomery and Fleming counties.

Nicholas County's last principal, Joe Orazen, is facing criminal charges for allegedly assaulting a student.

I'll be interested to see how this works out in court. I find it difficult to believe there could be any justification for a grown man to do that to a 15 year old, especially when the whole exchange was verbal until he came after him.

I also think it's funny that they say he allegedly threw him to the ground. I don't think that's really up for debate.

Looks to me as if the kid is giving the principle a bit of lip.Never the less the principle didnt look to be in any danger and I feel it was excessive force..Reminds of of that principle that carried the baseball bat many years ago.But he too got the point across.
Let me ask you one question?If you were a kid at this school after seeing this video would you give the principle a hard time?So there is a flipside to the coin from both points of view ,kids nowdays need a hell of alot more discipline but I think its a parents responcibility not a principles.
