Fight Breaks Out on a Southwest Airlines Flight Heading to Hawaii

A moment of unity on Southwest 1288 (still in the sky) as passengers and crew calm a fist fight and we continue on toward home in Kauaʻi where, incidentally, we host quarterly Authentic Relating corporate retreats.

The guy is still wild-eyed in the last frame, but watch how Dan (the man in blue) maintains eye contact, uses non-threatening body language and tactical empathy, validates his feelings and offers alternate solutions.

Context: Those are my parents. Small business owners on Kauai. Very kind people and very loved by their loyal locals on the west side of island.

That man against the window was drunk before getting on the plane and they sat him next to my parents.

The flight attendant continued serving him alcohol but was skeptical about it and at one point even asked my mom if she thought it was okay to get him another drink.

My mom did not know this man and why the flight attendant asked HER if the man could have another drink is beyond me. Shame on that flight attendant truly.

The man kept leaning into my mom and being obnoxious my dad asked the man to stop in which the man got defensive asking my dad if he had a problem and my dad told him yes that he needs to be aware of personal space and the man got mouthy and stood up and attempted to swing over my mother so of course my dad got defensive as any man who loves his wife would.
