Brother and Sister Arrested During Memorial Day Weekend Beach Brawl
A brother and sister are facing charges for their involvement in a brawl on Fort Lauderdale Beach during the Memorial Day weekend.
A video shows 2 men fighting, while a group of people stands by, some trying to separate them.
According to an arrest report, Carlos Correa, 20, was cursing at another group of beachgoers on Saturday, when he was asked to leave the beach by officers.
Police said the fight broke out while Correa was talking with officers, and charged at the group while other officers were attempting to break the fight up.
Police said it appeared that Correa was trying to grab one of the officers from behind, so another officer grabbed the suspect, struck him in the upper chest and tackled him to the ground.
Police said Correa swung his arms at officers and continued to resist arrest until he was placed in a police-issued vehicle.
Correa faces charges of battery on an officer, resisting arrest with violence and disorderly conduct.
Meanwhile, another arrest report shows Correa's sister, Samantha Correa, 19, tried to attack officers who were apprehending her brother.
Police said an officer pushed her away and told her to "back up," but she screamed obscenities at him and swung at another officer with a closed fist.
Correa was taken into custody on a charge of battery of a law enforcement officer.
