The assault was recorded by the victim's son.

Not saying this is ok:

The fact that even after getting her ass whipped she won’t give him the cell phone leads me to believe she is either cheating or there is evidence that she is planning to leave. I imagine if he gets his hands on the phone he will probably kill her....

He is probably trying to get the cell phone to keep her from calling the cops. I have a renter (I called her La Pinata) that has that her new move in boyfriend constantly beats her up almost daily. He tried to get the cell phone to keep her from calling the cops. He finally got arrested with no bond after getting arrested 4 times in a month (then released on bond).
