It's actually fairly easy to disable an attacker with a bat. They always overswing and can't pull it around fast enough and that is when you lunge. Both of their hands are tied up so they are wide open target for a kick or a punch. We used to practice this move with a broom handle covered by a pool noodle.

That heavily depends how big the guy is and if he's keeping you at the baseballs distance at all times. Life isn't a kung-fu movie.
