Video footage has emerged of Celtic fans being attacked by Ajax hooligans in an Amsterdam bar ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League game in the Dutch capital.

A camera captured the shocking scenes as a mob of masked supporters of the Dutch club stormed the Old Sailor Cafe where around 50 Celtic fans had congregated.

Fighting took place before the Ajax fans were seen running off after police arrived at the scene, with the Celtic supporters escorted out of the area for their safety.

Celtic had issued a warning on their official website, warning of vigilant of attacks.

However, their fans also became involved in another incident before kick-off, with 15 arrested.

Amsterdam police said yobs armed with bottles and sticks attacked plain-clothed officers in an incident described as ‘coming out of nowhere’.

Eight officers were injured with one knocked unconscious following the fighting in Dam Square, in the city centre.

Police said the majority of those arrested were Celtic fans, although it is believed that supporters from other clubs were also involved.

‘At the end of the afternoon a large group of Celtic supporters attacked police officers in plain clothes,’ a police spokesman said.

‘Eight were injured and one was knocked unconscious. A few of them had broken noses and needed stitches above their eyebrows and on their lips.

‘Bottles and sticks were used in the attack which came out of nowhere. There were 15 arrests, mostly Celtic supporters.

Celtic lost the match 1-0, after a superb team goal scored by Lasse Schone and now face an uphill battle to reach the knockout stages of the competition as they lie bottom of Group H.

Not sure if anyone else agrees with me, but if these two sets of fans want to fight it out then go for it. But to attack a pub with just their supporters in is uncalled for. There will have been many innocent supporters in that pub who didn't deserve it.

Make it a time and a place and leave the innocent alone.
