Re: 2 Men from Wyoming Jumped and Beaten by at Least 7 Men Over a Confederate Flag
they made a great impression to racists by not having any apparent negative stereo types about themselves. I'm sure they avoided any reinforcement of those racist views by fighting them

The Confederate flag is NOT a symbol of racism. You should educate yourself on such matters if you intend to make a statement about them.

Re: 2 Men from Wyoming Jumped and Beaten by at Least 7 Men Over a Confederate Flag
"Educate yourself"... the often heard cry of rebel flag supporters. What they fail to realize is that historically you cannot separate the Confederate/Rebel flag (any version) and racism. Here's why: Nobody cared about that stupid flag until everyone wanted to vote, go to the same schools, drink from the same water fountains, etc. Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis both said to lower the flag. Lee's reason was that it could open old wounds and stop our nation from healing. Davis said if should be taken down once it was no longer the flag of the nation. That flag was repopularized in opposition to Civil Rights, integration, and notions of racial equality. Now if you want to speak about the war itself not being about slavery, I suggest reading the declaration of causes of seceding states. They are the reasons given by the Confederate states as to why they are seceding. Here are a few excerpts: Mississippi-"... Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun... " Texas-"... In all the non-slave-holding States, in violation of that good faith and comity which should exist between entirely distinct nations, the people have formed themselves into a great sectional party, now strong enough in numbers to control the affairs of each of those States, based upon an unnatural feeling of hostility to these Southern States and their beneficent and patriarchal system of African slavery, proclaiming the debasing doctrine of equality of all men, irrespective of race or color-- a doctrine at war with nature, in opposition to the experience of mankind, and in violation of the plainest revelations of Divine Law. They demand the abolition of ***** slavery throughout the confederacy, the recognition of political equality between the white and ***** races, and avow their determination to press on their crusade against us, so long as a ***** slave remains in these States... We hold as undeniable truths that the governments of the various States, and of the confederacy itself, were established exclusively by the white race, for themselves and their posterity; that the African race had no agency in their establishment; that they were rightfully held and regarded as an inferior and dependent race, and in that condition only could their existence in this country be rendered beneficial or tolerable. That in this free government *all white men are and of right ought to be entitled to equal civil and political rights* [emphasis in the original]; that the servitude of the African race, as existing in these States, is mutually beneficial to both bond and free, and is abundantly authorized and justified by the experience of mankind, and the revealed will of the Almighty Creator, as recognized by all Christian nations; while the destruction of the existing relations between the two races, as advocated by our sectional enemies, would bring inevitable calamities upon both and desolation upon the fifteen slave-holding states." Now, YOU may not connect that flag to racism, but that's your own misguided and uninformed opinion. Beyond that, it's a symbol of armed insurrection and treason against the United States of America. Only in a country as great as this can you get away with waving that around. To be clear, I'm not excusing them of their actions. Yeah, he was asking for it but he didn't deserve the beating. Wave a swastika in Tel Aviv and see how it works out, though. |

Re: 2 Men from Wyoming Jumped and Beaten by at Least 7 Men Over a Confederate Flag
But if they had a "Black Lives Matter" flag, it's OK. A confederate flag is part of the South. Sure a little racist, but everyone has a right to be whatever the fuck they want. Black people are the most racist people on the planet in most cases like this - just look at the video. One of those motherfuckers by himself woulda just kept on walking. But the big tough group has to go and mess with someone over a flag. If they weren't out for trouble, they'd have just kept on walking. But, they decided to keep up with their agenda and further the racist shit.

"Black Lives Matter" (which, by the way, was meant to be understood as "black lives also matter") never enslaved or lynched people because of color. Don't even attempt to compare the two. BLM isn't going around hanging white people from oak trees or burning crosses in their front yards. |

Oh, I wish I was in the land of cotton, Old times there are not forgotten. Look away, look away, look away Dixie Land! In Dixie's Land, where I was born in, early on one frosty mornin'. Look away, look away, look away Dixie Land! I wish I was in Dixie, Hooray! Hooray! In Dixie's Land I'll take my stand, to live and die in Dixie. |

Re: 2 Men from Wyoming Jumped and Beaten by at Least 7 Men Over a Confederate Flag
The Black Panthers was an armed black nationalism movement, which was a response to segregation, oppression, and police brutality (which were real things, remember this was the 1960s). Between COINTELPRO, rivalries between other groups, and shootouts with police, it was obviously a much different situation than BLM. I'm not going to comment on the state of the music industry today, where sex and mysogeny (in all genres) seems to sell records more than peace does. Again, though, rappers aren't a political movement so it's not much of a comparison. I also dislike the use of the word "thug", as seems to have become a replacement for a racial epitaph... unless of course white gangbangers, drug dealers, and cop-killers are also called thugs. In that case I'm perfectly fine with its usage. |
