Two Warren, Ohio, men were arrested within about 20 minutes of a Jan. 27, 2010, home invasion after a 12-year-old boy gave a 911 dispatcher a detailed description of the getaway car and the intruders' clothing; Shon L. Thompson, 20, later pleaded guilty, and O'Mearo L. Beaver, 19, was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The boy had just gotten home from school and was in the bathroom around 2:30 p.m. at his family's house on Westwood Drive Northwest, according to trial testimony. His mother had left a short time earlier for her job as a school crossing guard. He heard pounding on the back door, looked out, and saw two men in hooded sweatshirts, one red and one green, along with an older, metallic red car parked out front with a third man inside.

The boy cracked the door, and the man in red asked to use the phone. He walked inside and headed for the bathroom, followed by the man in green, then a third man in a blue hoodie. The boy led the three through the house as they gathered a large-screen television, two video game consoles, games, jewelry, cash and his mother's driver's license. Before leaving, one of the men ordered him to get down on the floor, and he complied, unsure whether he would be hurt.

As soon as the car pulled away, the boy called 911 and calmly described the vehicle and the men's clothing. His mother arrived home while he was still on the phone. Warren Police Detective Sgt. Jeff Cole, worried that a shift change had left too few cruisers on patrol, left the station in an unmarked car and drove to the Hampshire House Apartments, a complex he knew from past investigations there.

Cole spotted a matching car pulling in and, with Sgt. Greg Hoso, held the two occupants at gunpoint. Officers found stolen game systems in the trunk and jewelry and the mother's license in one man's pockets. The two men, identified as Thompson and Beaver, both of Warren, were brought back to the house, where the boy identified them through a window about 20 minutes after the robbery. Police Chief Tim Bowers credited the boy's calm, accurate description with helping officers make the arrests so quickly. A third man was never identified, and the television was never recovered.

Thompson and Beaver were indicted on charges of aggravated burglary and kidnapping, first-degree felonies carrying up to 20 years in prison. Thompson pleaded guilty to both counts in December 2010. Beaver denied being inside the house, testifying that Thompson had already picked him up with the stolen goods in the car, but a Trumbull County jury convicted him on both counts after 30 minutes of deliberation in January 2011. Common Pleas Judge Peter Kontos sentenced him to 10 years in prison. The 11th District Court of Appeals upheld Beaver's conviction and sentence in March 2012, rejecting his arguments that the on-scene identification and the traffic stop were unconstitutional.
