A 14-year-old girl kept her two younger siblings calm and stayed on the phone with a 911 dispatcher for about 13 minutes while a burglar moved through their Oakland Park, Fla., home, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The break-in happened on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, after a man climbed through a broken window while the three children were home alone, authorities said. Kaylia Watson, 14, called 911 and, at the dispatcher's direction, hid with her 12-year-old sister and 11-year-old brother in a closet as the intruder went from room to room.

"Somebody broke into our house," Watson told the call taker, according to the recording. "Somebody please come." Her mother, who was driving to work, listened over a cellphone while her daughter spoke to the dispatcher on the home's landline, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies surrounded the house with the help of a helicopter and a K-9 unit. When officers reached the children, Watson was at first afraid to leave the closet, asking, "Can they come in and get me please," before deputies escorted the three out safely.

The police dog located the suspect, 18-year-old Robert James Conroy, hiding in a closet in the mother's bedroom, according to the sheriff's office. Conroy was bitten during the arrest and treated for his injuries before being taken to jail. He was charged with three counts, including burglary.

The Broward Sheriff's Office released the 911 recording the following week and credited both the dispatcher and the children, saying the call taker kept the siblings calm long enough for deputies to arrive and surround the home.
