A Provo woman who set fire to her apartment during a suicide attempt, killing two neighbors and badly injuring a third, was sentenced to up to 57 and a half years in prison, according to KSL and the Salt Lake Tribune.

The fire broke out the night of March 14, 2011, at the Boulders Apartments at 750 S. 650 West. Yvette J. Kimber, then 48, first told investigators she had fallen asleep with a lit cigarette, but later admitted she had deliberately set furniture in her unit ablaze because she wanted to kill herself, prosecutors said.

The publicly released 911 audio captured the minutes around the fire. According to the Deseret News, a friend called dispatch from Santaquin at 9:04 p.m. to report that Kimber had threatened suicide. Two minutes later Kimber called herself, telling the dispatcher, "I just got out," and, "I think I fell asleep with a cigarette." Other residents called as the flames spread, one reporting that "the windows are exploding" and that people were trapped upstairs.

Karen Lou Murray, 67, and Catherine Crane, 63, could not escape and died in their apartments, authorities said. A third resident, Jeanette Spahr, 51, jumped from a second-story window and was hospitalized with a broken pelvis and smoke inhalation.

Kimber was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of two counts of murder and aggravated arson, all first-degree felonies. In August 2013 she pleaded guilty under a plea agreement to reduced counts of two manslaughter charges, arson and aggravated assault, all second-degree felonies, according to court records.

On Oct. 18, 2013, a 4th District Court judge imposed four consecutive terms of one to 15 years, a maximum of 57 and a half years, and ordered Kimber to pay a $40,000 fine and $12,300 in restitution, with credit for 948 days already served, KSL reported. Spahr, who addressed the court, said of Kimber, "She acted like she really didn't care."
