ShotSpotter Notification Near 8500 S. Winchester, Officer Fires
On Jan. 25, 2024, three on-duty Chicago police officers in a marked police vehicle were sent to a ShotSpotter notification near the 8500 block of S. Winchester Avenue. When they arrived, they saw a juvenile standing near a residence. As one officer got out of the vehicle, the officer heard a loud bang, later determined to be fireworks. The officer fired in the direction of the juvenile. The juvenile was not hit. A firearm was not used against the officers, no weapon was recovered, and no criminal charges are pending.
