A New Jersey real estate agent fatally shot a coworker inside their Mountain Lakes office, then called 911 to report the killing and told a dispatcher he was armed and looking to make the situation worse, according to authorities and a recording released by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

Leonardo Parera, 39, of Kearny, shot and killed Christine King, 47, of Jefferson Township, at the EXIT Realty Gold Service office at 100 Route 46 on the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, prosecutors said. The two worked at the same office.

In the call, Parera reported the shooting and gave the address. "I just killed someone," he told the dispatcher, according to the recording. He said he was "armed and dangerous," that he was reloading and that he would fire on anyone who approached his car. When the dispatcher urged him to calm the situation, Parera answered, "We're not going to de-escalate this. I'm looking to escalate."

Parera also said he was ready to die and wanted to reach relatives to tell them he would soon be dead, according to the recording. Authorities said he was carrying a rifle and several handguns. The Morris County Prosecutor's Office released the call the following Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Officers found Parera sitting in a Honda Civic in the parking lot of the three-building complex, prosecutors said. A gun battle followed, and Parera was shot and killed. No officers, employees or customers were injured. Several workers barricaded themselves inside offices after hearing gunfire.

Authorities did not establish a motive. Coworkers told reporters that Parera and King had a professional relationship and that he had not shown anger or violence at work, according to published reports. King's relatives said they did not know the gunman. King was married and the mother of two teenage sons.
