A woman who was six months pregnant survived being stabbed at least 12 times by her boyfriend early on Nov. 2, 2013, after a trainee 911 dispatcher traced her silent cellphone call to pinpoint the couple's home in unincorporated Orange County, Florida, according to arrest records and the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Frank Defulgentis, 43, attacked Diane Palma with a kitchen steak knife inside a home in the 9700 block of Winder Trail after she told him she was no longer moving in with him. Palma suffered wounds to her head, face and arms and a broken arm, but the attack did not reach her abdomen, leaving the fetus unharmed, deputies said.

Palma ran from the room and tried to call 911 as she fled the house, but the call connected mostly silent. Trainee operator Katherine Perron, working alongside operator Natasza Wieczorek, heard screaming and a man's voice in the background asking "what happened to you" and began using wireless location technology to pinpoint where the cellphone call was coming from, according to the sheriff's office.

A housemate, Glen Finnerty, told investigators he saw blood in the home but stayed in his room during the attack, according to the arrest report.

Deputies arrived at the address around 3:30 a.m. and found Palma walking down the driveway covered in blood, with Defulgentis close behind her. Deputy William Dover took Defulgentis into custody at the scene.

Defulgentis was booked into the Orange County Jail without bond on a charge of attempted first-degree murder, with investigators citing the unborn child as a second victim in the case. "I wasn't trying to kill her," he told deputies, according to the arrest affidavit. Available court records do not show a final disposition for the case.

Jail records show Defulgentis had been arrested previously, in November 2012 in Sarasota County, on a charge of aggravated battery.
