This audio is from a Dec. 18, 2020 incident near 1500 N. Laramie Avenue in Chicago.

Officers Dale Frederick and Nikola Saric were driving south on Laramie Avenue from Area 5 at Grand and Central, headed to Chicago Public Safety Headquarters at 3510 S. Michigan. A black pickup truck ahead of them accelerated, turned west on Le Moyne at a high rate of speed, and struck a black sedan.

An unknown Black male began firing at the pickup truck. The officers stopped and announced their office. Officer Frederick fired three times at the unknown male, who ran west on Le Moyne and then south into the west alley of Laramie.

Assisting officers searched the area but did not find him. The pickup truck driver had gunshot wounds to the head and was later pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

The incident was partially captured on Officer Frederick's body-worn camera. Officer Saric failed to promptly activate his body-worn camera. Officer Frederick's use of deadly force was found to be within department policy.
