Midwest City Apartment Fire Kills Mother, Two Sons
Lindsey Terry, 26, and her two young sons died after a fire tore through their apartment at the Raintree Meadows complex on Harr Drive in Midwest City, Oklahoma, on May 6, 2012, according to the Midwest City Fire Department and local news reports. Firefighters were called to 449 Harr Drive shortly before noon. Terry's mother, who lived in a downstairs unit, placed the 911 call after smoke began pouring from the family's apartment, according to News 9. She and a neighbor were overcome by smoke and heat when they tried to reach the family inside, investigators said. Crews found Terry and both boys unresponsive when they got into the unit. The children, 4-year-old Dylan Terry and 2-year-old John Brown-Jones II, were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Their mother was revived and taken to an Oklahoma City hospital, where she died the following morning. Terry's young daughter was not home when the fire broke out and was unhurt, according to News 9. The blaze damaged at least eight apartments and caused about $250,000 in damage, fire officials said. The state medical examiner ruled that all three died of smoke inhalation and thermal burns and classified the deaths as accidental. Investigators traced the fire to a living room hallway and said they found no evidence of criminal activity. Police later released the recording of the grandmother's 911 call.
