Mantua 911 Trespassing Call Ends in Fatal Police Shooting
On Sept. 14, 2021, Charles Sharp III, 49, called 911 from his residence on Elm Avenue in Mantua, N.J. He reported that several people were trespassing on his property, including a person armed with a gun. At about 1:35 a.m., two uniformed Mantua Township police officers responded to the home and encountered Sharp outside the house. During the encounter, one officer fired his service weapon, fatally wounding Sharp. A detailed replica of a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun was found near Sharp. Officers and medical personnel rendered first aid, and Sharp was taken to Jefferson Washington Township Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 2:49 a.m. Watch the video of this incident here.  ·
