Jared Michael Williams, 32, of Williamston, was sentenced to three consecutive life terms after pleading guilty to killing three people and attempting to kill four others in a March 5, 2014, shooting at a home in Pelzer, South Carolina, court records show.

The three killed were Wanda Renee Anderson, 40; Victor Vandegrift, 48; and Hank Eaton, 32, according to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office. Vandegrift and Eaton lived at the house on Law Street where the shooting happened.

The surviving victim, Tara Hendricks, was shot twice and hid under a bed before fleeing to a nearby home, investigators said. The elderly homeowner there dialed 911, and Hendricks spoke with an Anderson County sheriff's dispatcher while help was sent. The archived recording is that call.

The gunman fled in Anderson's pickup, tried to take other vehicles at gunpoint and commandeered a construction company truck before leading deputies on a chase from Pelzer into neighboring Piedmont, according to law enforcement accounts. He fired at officers during the pursuit and crashed into a house on Highway 86. Deputies pulled him from the wreck after a struggle and took him to a hospital for injuries from the crash. No officers were hurt.

Authorities said the bloodshed grew out of an argument over a pair of shoes. A second defendant, Hope Kristian Phillips, 19, was charged with accessory after the fact and a murder count, accused of luring Anderson to the scene. Williams initially faced roughly 20 charges, including three counts of murder and attempted murder counts naming Hendricks and three deputies.

Williams pleaded guilty in November 2014 to three counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder. He died on March 13, 2015, at a hospital in Greenwood while an inmate at McCormick Correctional Institution. Officials did not release the cause.
