Feagaiga Leiataua, 30, died after the Thurston County Sheriff's SWAT team shot him during a standoff that followed a stabbing report on December 13, 2015, at a house on 49th Loop South East in Thurston County, Washington.

A man had called 911 to report the stabbing inside his house. The man who had done it was his wife's nephew, and he was still in the bathroom while the call was going on.

The caller gave the address twice and had to correct the dispatcher on it. He answered questions about where the person was stabbed, whether the attacker had a weapon on him, and what he looked like.

Asked for a name, the caller offered it a letter at a time. He asked more than once whether deputies were coming. Near the end, he said the police were at his door, and the dispatcher handed him over to a deputy.

Leiataua was a tattoo artist known as Nephi. The man he stabbed was 27.

When deputies arrived, Leiataua took his three-year-old daughter hostage, and a standoff followed at the house. Under the usual practice for a police shooting in the region, the investigation into the use of deadly force was handed to an outside agency, the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

The recording is the whole call, a little over seven minutes, from the first question to the deputy taking over at the door. It covers only the stabbing report. The standoff and the shooting happened after it ended, and none of that is on the tape.
