Kidnapping Hoax: Utah Teens Admit Fabricating Abduction
In Bountiful, Utah, two teenage girls, aged 16 and 17, initially claimed they were kidnapped and later escaped their captors. According to their initial report, the incident began when they snuck out for a walk around 2 a.m. and were approached by two men and a woman who forced them into a red SUV. They claimed to have been restrained in the vehicle for about 19 hours, eventually escaping in Santaquin after one of the girls freed herself and the other. However, this narrative was later revealed to be a hoax. Police found surveillance video showing the girls at a convenience store during the time of their alleged abduction. When confronted with this evidence, the teens admitted that their story was fabricated. They could now face charges for falsely filing a report of abduction. The initial account of the incident had detailed a dramatic escape, with the girls claiming they had been beaten, threatened, and restrained with duct tape. They said they managed to escape the vehicle when it stopped in Santaquin, and after failing to flag down several motorists, borrowed a phone from a passerby to call 911. The girls' mothers had also spoken to the media, describing the fear and precautions they were taking following the supposed abduction. You can listen to the 911 call below.
