A Fort Wayne, Indiana, woman hid under a bedroom desk before dawn on September 23, 2005, as burglars entered her room during a break-in at her home on the city's northeast side.

Myra Lassen had been jolted awake by the sound of a window shattering downstairs and called 911 to report a burglary in progress. She told dispatcher Katrina Mace she could hear intruders coming up the stairs, according to accounts of the call given by Fort Wayne police.

Instead of trying to flee, Lassen crawled under a desk in her bedroom. Mace stayed on the line for roughly ten minutes, speaking in a hushed voice and coaching her to stay quiet while officers were sent to the address.

At one point the burglars walked into the room where Lassen was hiding and stood beside the desk without realizing she was there. Mace kept talking her through it, tracking her whereabouts for arriving patrol units while Lassen waited under the desk in silence.

Fort Wayne police officer Andy Irick was among the first officers on scene and found one of the suspects, a juvenile, hiding in the home's basement. Two other suspects ran on foot and were caught nearby after a chase. Investigators said the group was tied to other burglaries in the area as well.

The recording resurfaced publicly three years later, when producers from Investigation Discovery's series "Call 911" traveled to Fort Wayne in October 2008 to interview Mace and Irick about the case for a segment on the show. Fort Wayne's 911 communications office had submitted the tape for consideration, and the episode was expected to air later that year.
