OKEMAH, Okla. -- A man accused in both the death of his girlfriend and two girls near Weleetka in 2008 made a court appearance on Tuesday.

Kevin Joe Sweat, 25, is accused of killing Ashley Taylor -- his girlfriend -- and Taylor Placker, 13, and Skyla Whitaker, 11, two girls found slain along a county road in Okfuskee County in June 2008. Sweat wore a bulletproof vest as he appeared in an Okfuskee County courtroom for proceedings related to both cases.

With regard to the Ashley Taylor case, prosecutors asked for a continuance because they need more time to prepare.

However, Sweat was also arraigned on murder charges in the Weleetka case. He elected to remain silent, so a judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. Sweat will be back in court on Feb. 22 for both the Taylor case and the Weleetka murders' case.

He is being held without bail.

Defense attorneys for Sweat asked that a gag order be issued. A judge will make that decision on Jan. 3. 2012

In Deviant Art, an online community that encourages self expression, Kevin Sweat created another identity.

Under the alias, Josepi Morgan, Sweat posted picture of himself showing off handguns and violent artwork.

In November 2008, Sweat wrote "wow, a lot of s*** has happened since the last time I came on here. I won't go into much detail for now."

Sweat also mentioned serving in the Navy and having "a secret for everyone."

The entry is dated six months after the June 8, 2008 murders of 13-year-old Taylor Placker and 11-year-old Skyla Whitacker in Weleetka. Two years passed and the Weleetka murders remain unsolved.

In May 2010, Sweat blogged again in an entry titled "So Much to Say." Sweat wrote about getting out of the military and getting engaged.

The family of Ashley Taylor told their daughter dated Sweat for three years during the time of the posts.

Sweat blogged about the engagement being "the biggest mistake" of his life, and wrote "wish I knew she was a complete basket case (medicated and suicidal) before I got with her."



A little more than a year later, Ashley Taylor was murdered on July 17, 2011. Sweat admitted to cutting her throat and is charged with the murder.

According to the arrest affidavit, Sweat told investigators that on June 8, 2008, he was driving on North 3890 Road in Okfuskee County, when he pulled over on the side of the road and saw "'two little monsters' come at him.' He said he panicked, grabbed his Glock .40 caliber handgun, and shot the "monsters."

According to the affidavit, Sweat then shot the girls again with a .22 caliber handgun.

Kinda strange, but Kevin used to make me sandwiches at the local Subway. He seemed up beat when I used to go in there, wouldn't have guessed he had killed two little girls. Then afterwards when I found out he killed Ashley, it was quite the shocker. It took a while before they found what was left of her body in a burn barrel on his uncle's land, and him to "confess" to killing the two little girls. Guess you really never know about some people...
