A Florida man shot and killed his estranged wife and her father at a home south of Deltona on the morning of Nov. 29, 2010, then killed himself as the couple's 11-year-old daughter looked on, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies identified the shooter as Carlos Negron, 39, of Orlando. The victims were his estranged wife, Lara Negron, 41, and her father, Philip Spinney, 73. All three were found dead at Spinney's home at 473 Sunset Road, an enclave on the north shore of Lake Monroe in the Stone Island area of Volusia County.

The sheriff's office said a 911 call came in about 8:13 a.m., after neighbors heard gunfire. The couple's daughter was not hurt and ran from the house to get help once the shooting stopped.

The girl went to the home of a neighbor, Dianne Rothermund, and described what she had seen. "My dad just shot my mom and grandpa," the girl said, according to Rothermund. "He shot them in the head, he shot both of them in the head." Rothermund took the child inside and called authorities.

"Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that Carlos Negron killed the other two victims and then turned the gun on himself," the sheriff's office said in a statement. Investigators said a weapon was recovered near his body.

Investigators said the couple had married in 1999 and were in the process of divorcing. Lara Negron and her daughter had been living with Spinney at the Stone Island home for about two years. Court records showed that Carlos Negron was arrested on a domestic-violence battery charge in Lake Mary in 2001, though the charge was later dropped and no restraining order was in place.

Autopsies performed by the Volusia County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the deaths of Spinney and Lara Negron homicides caused by multiple gunshot wounds. Carlos Negron's death was confirmed a suicide from a shotgun wound. Their daughter was placed in the care of the sheriff's office and the Florida Department of Children and Families.
