A Glynn County, Georgia, woman drowned her 4-year-old daughter, left her 2-year-old son near death and shot herself in the chest during a 911 call from her home on Baumgardner Road shortly before 10 a.m. on Feb. 16, 2010, police said.

Julia Murray, 21, gave her name, address and telephone number in a flat, deliberate voice, then told dispatcher John Girton, "I just killed my two kids." Asked to repeat it, she said she had drowned them and gave their ages as 2 and 4, according to the Florida Times-Union, which reviewed the recording.

Less than a minute later, Murray stopped answering questions. "No. I just shot myself ... with a gun ... please hurry," she said. Those were her last words. An officer could be heard entering the room where she lay unresponsive.

Officers found Murray mortally wounded beside a .357-Magnum revolver that belonged to the family, Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering said. Both children were on a bed in their bedroom, lying next to each other and still wet, as though they had been tucked in. Investigators believe they were held under water in a bathtub, police Capt. Marissa Tindale said.

Ansli Murray, 4, was not breathing when officers reached her and was pronounced dead at 10:44 a.m. at Southeast Georgia Health System's Brunswick hospital, county Coroner Jimmy Durden said. Her mother died there at 11:57 a.m. Her brother Creighton, 2, called C.J. by the family, was still breathing. He recovered and was released from the hospital the next morning, Tindale said.

Doering called the case a homicide, an attempted homicide and a suicide. Murray left no note and gave no explanation on the call, and police said they had not determined a motive. She had no criminal record and worked as a babysitter, officers said. The children's grandmother, Alia Murray, had legal custody of them, and relatives told the Times-Union they had seen no warning signs.

"We have no answers to why this happened," Murray's older sister said in a statement. Mother and daughter were buried together after a visitation on Feb. 19 and a funeral the following morning at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Brunswick. Girton told WJXT he had hoped at first the call was a prank and that he did not want to hear the recording again. "It was devastating, but I'm trained to focus on the task, and that's what I tried to do," he said.
