Florida Teens Convicted in Walmart Carjacking
James Burgado and Jayland Harrison, both 18 at the time, were convicted in October 2015 and sentenced to prison for a four hour kidnapping and robbery ordeal that began in a Walmart parking lot in Winter Springs, Florida. According to Seminole County Sheriff's Office records, Burgado and Harrison approached Jardin Delman, 28, around 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of a Walmart Neighborhood Market on Red Bug Lake Road. Investigators said they were armed with handguns, demanded Delman's wallet and car keys, and forced him into his black 2011 Mercedes-Benz. Deputies said the two drove Delman to a nearby bank and made him withdraw $240 from his account at gunpoint. They then took him to a residential facility on Dike Road in Winter Park where Burgado and Harrison lived, taped his eyes and hands shut with duct tape, and put him in the trunk of his own car for several hours. Around 4 a.m., investigators said, the pair returned to the facility, sat Delman in a rolling chair and locked him inside a bathroom before fleeing in his Mercedes. Two other residents at the home freed him. Delman called 911 himself, telling dispatchers, "I've been kidnapped, I've been gone for hours, I've been held at gunpoint, I've been in the backseat of a car." Burgado and Harrison were arrested and charged with kidnapping, armed robbery, carjacking and assault. Both were held without bond at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility pending a February arraignment. Seminole County court records show both men were convicted on three felony counts, kidnapping to facilitate a felony, burglary with assault and robbery with a firearm, and were sentenced to 15 years and six months on each count. Burgado remains at Putnam Correctional Institution with a projected release date of February 2028. Harrison, held at Santa Rosa Correctional Institution, has a projected release date of August 2029.
