Fatal Police Shooting Near 446 W. Blackhawk Street
On October 2, 2022, at approximately 5 a.m., Chicago police were sent to 446 W. Blackhawk Street after four female civilians reported that a subject had pointed a gun at them. Officer Jarron Jefferson and his partner, Officer Lashon Morris, pursued the subject. During a foot pursuit, the subject discharged a firearm at Officer Jefferson. Officer Jefferson then discharged his firearm, striking the subject. The subject was later pronounced deceased. Sergeant Kristopher Rigan responded to the scene. Officer Jefferson's use of deadly force was found to be within CPD policy. Separate findings were sustained against Officer Jefferson and Officer Morris for failing to timely activate their body worn cameras and for partner splitting during the foot pursuit. A finding was also sustained against Officer Jefferson for failing to notify OEMC of the foot pursuit, and against Sergeant Rigan for improperly directing Officer Morris to clear the gun found near the subject's body.
