Cranford police officers were pursuing a stolen vehicle on Dec. 28, 2023, when it crashed near Exit 131 on the Garden State Parkway southbound in Woodbridge, New Jersey.

After the crash, the driver, Kevin Harlfinger, 40, of Perth Amboy, exchanged gunfire with Cranford Police Officers Christopher Folinusz and Ryan McSharry.

Harlfinger was pronounced dead at the scene at about 12:04 a.m. on Dec. 29. A firearm was recovered from Harlfinger, and spent shell casings recovered at the scene were ballistically determined to have come from that firearm.

Officer Folinusz sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound, was treated at a hospital, and later released. A state grand jury voted not to file criminal charges in the shooting.
