A 28-year-old woman was found dead of a gunshot wound in her home near Sunset Beach, North Carolina, on April 23, 2012, after her ex-husband called 911 to report that she had shot herself, according to WECT and WWAY.

Megan Elizabeth Tysinger, a longtime Brunswick County EMS worker who had moved to the coastal town about three weeks earlier, was pronounced dead at the house on Sea Lane. A small-caliber handgun was recovered close to where she was found, the stations reported.

The caller was her ex-husband, Brandon Tysinger. On the recording he told a dispatcher that he had brought the couple's young daughter to the house and was watching the child ride a scooter outside when he heard shots. He said he ran in and found Megan on the floor. "She shot herself," he told the dispatcher, saying the wound was "right through the center of her chest."

Tysinger said he heard two loud shots. A preliminary autopsy found that Megan died of a single gunshot wound, and investigators said it came from a 9mm handgun, according to WECT.

A neighbor said she had heard the couple arguing that morning. A short time later, she said, Tysinger ran to her home and told her his ex-wife had shot herself. He and the daughter were waiting at the neighbor's house when deputies arrived.

The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office said it did not suspect foul play but described the case as an open death investigation with more steps to take. No charges were reported in connection with the death.
