Coral Springs officers formed a human chain and pulled 76-year-old Eva K. Rubino from her sinking car in a drainage canal early on the morning of June 3, 2010, police said.

Rubino, a Coral Springs woman, called 911 shortly before 5 a.m. after her white 2001 Hyundai ended up in the canal in the 10000 block of Northwest 29th Street. "This is an emergency, my car is in the water. I can't open my door and I'm sitting in the water in the car," she told the dispatcher, according to police.

Rubino told the 911 operator she was disabled and that water had risen to her chest inside the car. "The water's rising in the car, I mean, this is a real emergency, I can't get the doors open," she said. "Please hurry."

Responding officers found Rubino trapped in the sinking vehicle. They formed a human chain to reach the car, broke a window and pulled her to safety, police said.

Rubino was taken to Coral Springs Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition. Police did not release information on how the car left the roadway.
